Disposal Company Seeks Skilled Labor in Rural Market

Advanced Disposal utilizes VRG Resource Group’s services to find qualified Diesel Mechanics.

About the Client:

Headquartered in Northeast Florida, Advanced Disposal is a part of the parent company Star Atlantic Waste Holdings II in New York, and has become the nation’s largest privately-held waste disposal company servicing 17 states and the Bahamas. As the fourth largest refuse and recycling Collection Company in the United States, Advanced Disposal serves well over 2.7 million customers with 5,700 employees.

Challenge: Hiring for Skilled Positions in a Rural Area

With a nationwide shortage of qualified diesel mechanic technicians, finding a qualified candidate in a smaller, rural area presented a great challenge to the hiring team at Advanced Disposal. The disposal company searched for full-time, qualified technicians for several months and settled for temporary labor until the position could be filled, proving to be very costly for the business. Advanced Disposal exhausted all local resources to attract candidates to their position including newspaper postings, online job boards, and employee referral programs. Each tool proved to be fruitless, and Advanced sought out VRG’s help in identifying potential candidates for this essential position.

Resolution

After months of searching for qualified and interested Diesel Mechanics in a rural Illinois market, Advanced Disposal chose VRG for our sourcing and pre-screening expertise. A VRG team comprised of client management, sourcing, and recruiting specialists utilized our labor market expertise to identify skilled labor in a rural market. Advanced Disposal chose VRG’s 30 day QAI services in which we source qualified candidates, post on various job boards, and pre-screen qualified candidates to confirm qualifications and indicate availability and interest.

Outcome

Finding an expert technician to maintain their highly complex fleet of vehicles is an essential and difficult task. The VRG team was able to identify 10 interested and qualified candidates for the diesel mechanic position in Central Illinois and Advanced made 2 hires within a month’s time frame-all for a low, flat-rate.
